(31,989 posts)I remember seeing them when on a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. They nest on the ground, if I remember correctly. Great capture of this one in flight!

(86,579 posts)The best I ever got out of attempts at getting pictures of them is the nest I found in a freshly seeded plot at a farm I was managing at the time. I nearly stepped on it, I flagged it off so it would not be disturbed.
So, where's the nest?
Right there!
I might have some pictures of the bird somewhere in my long lost files on an external drive that crashed and ate two years of pictures. I haven't had a chance to capture those birds since.

(86,579 posts)And thankful I didn't step on it first! If I hadn't been soil testing, I never would have seen it at that time.

(86,579 posts)I have adapted to looking for them when I'm out on the gravel bars in the river. I would really be upset if I ever stepped on a nest.

(16,389 posts)I don't often see kildeers flying. Every now and then, I come upon one or two skittering around on those litte toothpick legs of theirs, and they always look so funny. They look a lot different in the air!
