Cardinal flowers (at least I think that's what they are). They were so beautiful, the brilliant reds against the greens. I didn't expect such color this time of year.

(15,333 posts)low winds, cloudy/sunny and only one fishing boat came down the river, but they were respectful of our boats.

(15,333 posts)This particular stretch of river is only about a 20 minute drive from my house. And it's so peaceful. No road noise, rarely a boat come down/up river. But then again, we like to paddle on a weekday rather than a weekend, which I'm assuming makes a difference.
We see blue heron, eagles, various birds (depending on time of year) an occasional deer and fox.
