My wife, son and I are currently on vacation in London. We are finishing a 28 day UK vacation .Edinburgh, Inverness, Skye, Glasgow and London. We head back to Portland, OR on Tuesday. We will miss the UK.

telephoto lens?

I said that because it looked like the foreground-background compression that you get with telephoto, so zooming might account for that. A wide angle, IMO, would "push those background objects further back".
Regardless, it works well.
