The "M" in M45 stands for Messier, the French astronomer who was mostly interested in comets. He labeled blurry objects which are not comets with the "M" designation. Later, it was discovered that most of those objects were galaxies.

I've always thought the Subaru logo was really pretty, but had no idea it was based on the Pleiades or what the company name meant. Now I'll remember it every time I see a Subaru!
