Sunrise at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area

I took this photo in March of 2014 during spring migration in the Atlantic Flyway. During the migration many thousands of waterfowl and other birds stopover at Middle Creek in Lancaster County, PA. Most of the birds in the shot are snow geese, along with tundra swans and Canada geese. Last February it was estimated that Middle Creek was visited by 105,000 snow geese, 4,500 tundra swans and 3,500 Canada geese. I plan to return next month when the birds again start gathering.

We try to go the the marshes in the area to view migrations. Sometimes it gets really noisy!

and return to the lake and marshes at sundown. The sight and sound of thousands of large birds lifting off or touching down together is breathtaking!
