More details on the OM Systems 90mm macro.
There are numerous videos about the new lens prepared by OM Ambassadors and spokespeople. Easy enough to find so I'll leave you to it. Actual price is $1499, more in line with my expected price. Bigger news is that it will accept both the 1.4x and 2x OM teleconverters. That means that it isn't only capable of 2x magnification but 3x with the 1.4x and 4x with the 2x converter! And should you take advantage of the digital 2x converter built into the camera body it can get up to 8x at almost 9 inches focus distance!! And it can use the in-camera focus stacking and other computational features which might be necessary.
This lens isn't for everyone tho. The depth of field at 2x and wide open is less than 1mm. That ain't much! You'll be shooting a lot at f16 and f22 which is definitely very high ISO or electronic flash territory.
Some dismiss the digital 2x but I find it very useful with minimal, if any, image quality loss. Below is an example of using the digital 2x with the 75-300 zoom:
I don't know what sort of computational magic the body uses but it seems to work.
I WILL be buying this when I get enough room on the 0% interest card. It's not for everyone but I'm all in.
