....yes, sometimes the primates and amphibians and reptiles move out of my way so i can photograph some birds......here is a selection of hummer photos i've taken:

....how close are you getting to them and what kind of gear are you using?

7. The nest was not in an ideal place, it was about 25 feet above my deck

I used a 400 mm cannon lens at f5.6 they were in the shade quite a bit. Some of the shots I do through my plate glass back door window on my porch with the 200 mm. Can get about 5 feet away. They are very small is the challenge, of course

9. their nests are rarely in ideal spots for photography

10. I'm glad they're good at hiding the nests, so the Blue Jays will raid them

This was from two years ago I know they’re nesting nearby this summer I see them flying in from the tree but I can’t spot their nest. I really think the same ones come back from last year. And it looks like a successful nesting this year

4. These are all just gorgeous, Gato and Walleye!

I love hummers. We have a number of feeders on our porch. A male Ruby Throated flew up and just hovered in front of my face the other day.

6. i'm not sure where you're located, but.....

....if you have some space for a small garden, plant some mexican sunflower (Tithonia rotundifolia). it's a fast growing annual that makes a ton of daisy sized orange and yellow composite blooms that hummingbirds (and butterflies) cannot resist. depending on where you are, they should reseed and keep growing throughout the growing season and possibly every year. if not, seeds are easy to harvest and keep to replant.

i had them in my yard in austin, tx and the hummers were constantly bickering over the territory and there was always several buzzing around the yard all day.
