Some stuff from this past weekend

On Sunday I was in 4 states (though we only photographed in two). Yesterday I was so worn out from my Saturday and Sunday activities that I missed photographing the Arlington ceremony--there's always next year for that though.

After I apply the preset, I cool the photos off a bit with the temperature slider and then I bring the black, white, highlight and shadow levels up so I just barely see them in the overlay mode and then I adjust the exposure in the same way. Then I may or may not use the adjustment brush to bring out some details in the shadows or increase or decrease exposure selectively. It's made a huge difference in my process and the way the photos look.

but I'm learning that you can have dark and moody and still bring out some detail from the shadows. If I could make a living from just photographing swaths of light in otherwise dark/underexposed areas, I'd be in heaven.

I feel like I'm improving--which is the goal, besides the enjoyment and exercise I get from it. I'd guess we probably walked about 6-8 miles on Sunday.
