finally after a lot of trying i got some halfway decent lightning shots. the last one is a bolt of cloud to cloud lightning

1. Sweet. I love a good lightning shot.

Are you using any of those fancy lightning detectors, or are you just holding open the shutter?

2. no lightning detector

open the shutter for 30 seconds. if theres a bolt of lighning i turned the camera off to close the shutter immediatly after the bolt

3. I have a few from a previous storm using that method,

although I would just leave the shutter open for the whole exposure time, with or without a lightning flash.

i was getting to much light. i think it depends on how dark the sky is where your shooting

5. Yes, you do need to experiment with the exposure at the start.
