Related: About this forumI'm clueless
Perhaps I'm over thinking this whole thing but judging from the lack of entries I sorta' kinda' think I'm not alone. I'm not looking for a 'winning' photo I'm just looking for something that comes fairly close to the actual theme. These are a couple I found while digging through my virtual shoebox.
Anyone else clueless? Or am I the lone idiot here?

(22,380 posts)Your first photo, to me, is more along the lines of "tell me the story of...this photo". Of course I recognize the line of the song, and I think it is a fine interpretation of story telling, though I can see why you might question that.
There are many photos that obviously have a great story behind them, or are at least partially telling one, but not many that refer fully to the theme as it is presented.
Your second photo is an interpretation that others are using. I think it is achingly beautiful and is already in my mind unforgettable.
I entered mine, honestly, in order to move the entries along - not because I'm really fond of it. And it did not help.
BUT
it holds me a place should I come up with a better idea.
I am finding myself intrigued by the anticipation of the photos and interpretations to come.
It's the most challenging subject I can remember, and I'm in favor of our stretching our minds.
I've never been a very good thematic photographer. Unless the 'theme' is doors and windows. Something everyday. Easy. Or, if there is no theme at all. I'm really good with that one.
I will eventually come up with something.
Every photo tells a story. Some better than others. The difficult part is the photo that tells the story of "telling a story".

(27,439 posts)I can come up with photos that tell a good story but have trouble with a photo that shows storytelling.
I have a very cute shot of Mr Pip reading a story to our grand daughter but it's just a sweet family photo with little artistic merit. Tough theme for me since I don't do people well.
I'll come up with something. I've only missed two contests in the many years I've been part of this group.
I think they are called challenges for a reason.

(1,771 posts)If you looked at every photo I've taken over the last couple of years there is maybe 2 or 3 photos with people in them.
The photo you described sounds perfect. I don't have any models that I can use or I certainly would.
I just enjoy participating. Since there is no prize there is no stress or pressure. I'm looking at a couple of other photos and if that doesn't work I'll try to stage something.
Thanks for your input

(90,762 posts)I didn't have a shot until the day before submissions opened. I almost gave up. I went for humor. Before that though...I was smoking out my ears trying to come up with something. One idea after the other just didn't work out the way I hoped. I didn't like the shots at all. I was getting on my husband's nerves because I kept saying, "I need a shot". He got tired of hearing it. lol
I like your second shot the best.

(1,771 posts)But I'm a big Walking Dead fan so I'm probably a tad bit biased.
That was an incredibly creative photo. Kudos

(90,762 posts)I almost tossed a baggie of blue sea glass in the shot and called it "Breaking Habits."
Still...it was days before my mind got over the fear of screwing up the make-up so bad it would screw up any potential shot. Only after my other ideas went belly up did I try.

(4,483 posts)To the voting considering how tough it's been for the participants.
Now if only someone had a shot of a child reading a book to a kitten with a sunset in the background.

(11,518 posts)Cats are some of the most uncooperative models I've ever seen. Even worse than my son.

(1,771 posts)A purty photo can edge out a photo that is well done and better represents the theme.
No kids or kats around here or I would be all over that.
