I got up the nerve to take portraits with a manual focus lens. Back in the good old days I thought nothing of it.
Olympus EPM2 Tokina 28mm 2.8 I love this lens. The best $20 dollars I've spent in a long time.

(7,372 posts)I'm glad you got the nerve up... taking portraits is something I haven't ever considered. Each picture captures an essence of the subject, plus they evoke a reaction from the viewer.
The first...what an expression! Looks like he's reminiscing about Pickett's Charge... He reminds me of an old Russian stonemason I once knew, who lived to be 105.
The second...wow! I swear I've seen that girl before...maybe in a Diane Arbus photo? Love the Mona Lisa smile.
The third is my favorite. I get a nice sense of pride from this young man. Maybe I'm crazy, but his face reminds me of a young Leonardo DiCaprio. The horse and the outfit makes me think he could be a jockey, at least someone who is experienced with horses.
Please, keep up with the excellent work!

That girl was a firecracker. The boy was matter of fact, stayed on script, and in character. He was sitting on a rawhide saddle.
