Detroit rides again!

The museum had a car show today. It was small and not too many interesting things, but enough to satisfy my photo itch for today.

Yes, this is a Thunderbird station wagon. Here's a link that tells a bit about this hybrid. I quite liked it, and if it would get more than 5 mpg, I wouldn't mind having it. It's for sale.

Who remembers these puppies?

I miss elegant hood ornaments.

OMG! Look at that bumper. This is a Kaiser.

This is a restored Napa police car, 1957 Ford.

When I got ready to leave, I found this parked next to me. I felt a little itchy on the way home. Don't know why.

Here's a link to the rest of the album. Take a look.
Well, never mind. They didn't get uploaded to an album, and if I move them the links will be broken. Nor am I going to move 85 photos one by one. Sorry.

My first car was a 56 Ford, 6 cylinder. Pretty reasonable, but then my dad sold it, bought himself a Charger and gave me the 58 Ford wagon (V8). Holy shit, could that thing eat gas.

I was commuting about an hour each way to work in those days. My first gasoline bill with the wagon was about 100 bucks! And those were the days of 28¢ gas. I sold that thing within the week and bought a Volkswagen from a friend who upgraded to a Carmen Ghia. Never had a big (or American) car since.

There were several there. I'm going to try to get the phpobucket thing fixed today and post a link to the album. There was a sweet Stuebaker with an even sweeter airstream. Gotta see it.

See, I remember when rolling out new car models was an even bigger deal than a new iPhone launch.

Thanks for the great photos.

the idea, that is. But I like it! Very space age looking, the customizers did a wonderful job! And do you know what type car has the sphinx hood ornament?

I also love the classic cars, especially from the 50s and 60s. Seeing one on the road these days always elicits a "Wow look at that!" response from me. My dad and I would always go to classic car shows.

Since this a car appreciation thread, I hope you don't mind if I share a couple images of this old Mercury Monterey I saw during my travels in Eastern Oregon. Needs work, it's missing the bumpers, maybe even an engine by the looks of it, but still worth appreciating.

The elegant lady is a Plymouth.

When I arrived I parked next to a 50 Ford, which was for sale. It was gone by the time I left so no photo. The 49 and 50 Fords (virtually indistinguishable from each other) are two of my favorite models. Such a simple design that, in my opinion, has held up through the years. I, too, used to go to classic car shows with my dad. I love the old monsters, however impractical they are.
