(20,886 posts)Good full range of tones. Ansel would be proud of you. I really like the desert with all the textures.

(19,459 posts)For some reason, every time I look at that it makes me think "peyote."
I can only speculate.

(36,464 posts)The cactus are great, how they dominate the scene. I really like the last one, too. It has a fluid feel to it.
Very nice!

(19,459 posts)It was almost cold enough to snow when I took the cactus shot, which felt weird to me since I don't usually think of cactus and snow. I've seen it snow in the Great Basin desert area of northern California/Nevada, but it surprised me here for some reason. Probably because I had left San Diego at about 80* a couple hours earlier, and it was in the high 30's when I pulled up here.

(31,388 posts)I can feel the sun breaking through those clouds in the CA/OR border shot!

(19,459 posts)There was a big, wide gravelly turnout so I pulled over to catch a brief glimpse of sun.

(19,459 posts)It's a big wisteria seedpod. Didn't notice it until I went to process it.
I was bummed when I noticed it.

(60,071 posts)I thought it was just a shadow.
I try to to take several photos of a subject from different angles, just in case. I'm still learning that lesson. Forgetting to change white balance is how I usually screw up. White balance is there for a reason.

(7,911 posts)I'm particularly partial to "industrial" subjects and machinery.

Unfortunately I deleted it from my computer without copying it to either ImageShack or Flickr.
B&W is perfect for machinery, etc., as you observed in another post.

(22,380 posts)breathtaking. They want me to pack my bags, and that is high praise since I'm ready for Xmas and settled in at the moment.
The second one especially, I love the softness of the rays and do not miss color in the least.
Great portrait of the pump, too. A fascinating looking machine.

(19,459 posts)In some cases they are truly shifting large volumes around. Take a tour through any of the wineries around here and you will find plenty of stainless steel and machinery.
Thank you for the kind words, Mira. I hope you are settled in to a comfortable nest for Christmas. Also hope the recent unfortunate events at your place are working themselves out in your favor.

(86,612 posts)You're off to a very good start. Some have an eye for it and some... not so much. Those are sharp and nicely composed.

(19,459 posts)I have a long way to go in learning my camera, and the technical side of things. I do enjoy the artistic expression it allows.

(86,612 posts)I was taught the basics of 35mm back in my early teens then studied process photography in my late teens. Used it at work for a few years, now I have gone digital. I started really small and now have a Nikon Coolpix P510. I wonder if I'll ever use all it has to offer... doubt it. But I love having a camera that does just about everything I know how to do and lots more. It will be another few years before I know a quarter of what I can do with it, but it sure is nice having room to grow.
