Well, I got some eclipse pictures. I didn't line things up correctly to get any ground elements as silhouettes as I had hoped to, so I just have isolated photos of the moon over the sun. I still have lots of post-processing to do, but here are a handful of pictures from yesterday.
Also, I wanted to take a minute to say a big THANK YOU to DUer XemaSab, who resides in the Redding area and let me know about a really nice shooting location. It's a wind farm near Burney, CA (northeast of Redding). The wind farm sits on a high ridge at about 5000' and offers long, beautiful views in 3 directions, including the direction of the setting sun. From this spot, there are also some real postcard shots of Mt. Shasta. And of course, the windmills themselves are interesting photography fodder--at least they were for me. So one last time, thank you, XemaSab. And to everyone else, if you're going to shoot in an unfamiliar locale, it wouldn't hurt to check DU first to see if there are any locals who can give you advice. They might just surprise you.
The pictures:
This is Burney Falls, about a 30-minute drive from the eclipse shoot location. It's a pretty nice spot to spend time while waiting for the evening's eclipse.
This is the Hatchet Ridge wind farm near Burney, CA. My reading tells me there are 44 windmills here. These things are huge, and they make the coolest whooshing sound as the blades (each blade 140 feet in length) swing down. Mt. Shasta can be seen in the background, to the northwest.
Here's a shot of the sun in partial eclipse.
And a shot of the full annular eclipse.
