(149,531 posts)I prefer the color photos, but the B&W have a certain charm too.

(19,459 posts)The colored ones feel to me the way it does around here when we're having a normal rainy season.

(19,459 posts)When we have normal rainfall this can be a beautiful area to live in, granted I've avoided the nuclear waste recycling and cement plant just out of frame to the right....

(90,758 posts)I suspect it will look quite a bit different by August.

(19,459 posts)And I suspect we may be in for a brutal fire season, given the amounts of rain we've had and the burst of undergrowth it always brings. At least the trees will be hydrated.

(19,459 posts)It's a road I drive fairly often. Today I glanced up and happened to see this. Something about the day made it stand out (other than the processing). I turned around to find a spot to capture it. Never did find what I was looking for originally, which was something for this month's contest.
It reminded me of country we saw over in the northwestern part of your state a couple of years ago, around Grandfather Mountain.

(22,380 posts)Go to Portfolios, and then Showcase.
Your photos remind me of his oils, and since this artist is in Asheville, and Grandfather Mountain isn't far from there, I think you are spot on with the similarity

(60,071 posts)Do you use colored filters during conversion?
I love cloudy days. I like what it does for colors.

(19,459 posts)Also some selective saturation, adjustments to contrast, and highlighting on the rocks.
The b&w was a straight conversion in Silver Efex, with some tonal adjustment/structure recovery in the shadows.

(60,071 posts)I like the different colors of the greenery in the color images.

(19,459 posts)"Blue-Green," "Yellow-Green," and "Green-Green" is how it goes, I think. There is also a Color Cast that can make a difference.
Silver Efex has colored filters as general adjustments rendering the b&w.

(60,071 posts)I guess both are like the channel mixer on steroids.

(86,335 posts)It's amazing what you can see in an image in B&W that you can't in color.
