(90,767 posts)Absolutely nothing remotely nautical in this tiny parish. Went with the old saying (Red sky at night, sailors' delight.
Red sky at morning, sailors take warning).
Mira
(22,380 posts)and I looked it up before I saw your note here. I like the dramatic photo and I like your thinking.

(22,380 posts)You take care of yourself first. After that all falls into place and everybody wins.
It's the oldest archived photo I've ever posted. Might have taken it 8 or more years ago. Probably with a little point and shoot.

A reenactment occurred in front of my home in southern Maryland in 2014, and while the pic is not of professional quality, the history is interesting I think.

(31,388 posts)When we sailed in to St. Petersburg (Russia) a couple of years ago, there were several submarines that were on display
or being renovated. I looked at my photos of what I took as we sailed by, but didn't catch anything half as good
as your shot!
Mira
(22,380 posts)The Scorpion is an old Russian submarine, one can tour it and go on down into it.
It lies next to the Queen Mary like a big slug. One photograph is looking down onto it from the highest deck, the other a sight in the bowels of the submarine.

(31,388 posts)The weather was horrible--cold, rainy, gray-- all three days we were in port (on a Baltic cruise).

The top one looks like my Scorpion, doesn't it. How fabulous you got to go there! I have relatives in Kirov, and I could go there but they are so poor I would really be imposing.
You are cruisin' with the borders. Looks good! St. Petersburg has the Hermitage Museum I believe. Did you get to go there? If yes, you would probably still be there looking, it's that big.

(31,388 posts)It was so crowded. We were there in late May. I can't imagine it in mid-summer.
My favorite, though, was the newly opened and privately owned Faberge Museum. Much smaller, no crowds, spectacular displays--including the world's most complete display of
Faberge Eggs.

in those buildings in the background.

(18,628 posts)I kinda wish now I would have entered this pic. I took it last year at Mosquito Lake here in NE Ohio when I ran into these boys who dug out dad's drag boat and got it running. That 454 Chevy motor and zoomies might fit the "naughty" theme better.
Oh well...

(11,795 posts)I'm curious as to what June's theme will be. I'm leaving for Mexico for a month, always a wonderful place to photograph!
mnhtnbb
(31,388 posts)It's anybody's guess what the theme will be for June! We have to wait and see who wins May because that person gets to decide
on the theme and run the June contest.
I will be running the Spring contest, though, with submissions opening a week from today on June 1st.
