A couple quick shots from Kotzebue
It's really late and I should be in bed, but I wanted to get started on these Kotzebue pictures.
This was taken out the window of the plane as we were approaching the Kotzebue airport. This is pure tundra.
One thing you notice right away in Kotzebue is that there is junk EVERYWHERE. There was also quite a bit of winter trash left around, but my brother said that a community cleanup is planned for the near future. The trash will go but the junk stays - for decades. We saw the hulk of a 1960s-era Ford Falcon Ranchero in one pile of metal. Anyway, this is toward the end of Shore Avenue, which is the closest street to the water. This is the Chukchi Sea, which was just starting to break up.
