Related: About this forum***UPDATE ON MAY***
My apologies to the group, as it's been brought to my attention that I'm late with posting the May contest preliminaries. My own schedule, and the fact that I'm an no longer a star member, have thrown a wrench into my hosting duties, and for this I sincerely apologize.
I'm working feverishly to get the preliminary thread up today. My thanks to Mira and mnhtnbb for the help they've offered this newb. And thank you for your patience!

You will get it posted when you get it posted, not like you are getting paid for this.

Atman has brought me in to pinch hit on carrying out the rest of the contest. Due to his schedule and other difficulties,
I offered to step up and continue with the contest. For those who may remember, my submission came in second to Atman's
in the April contest, so I have no problem with stepping in to continue what he started with this very fun theme.
I will withdraw my submission for May--so there's no conflict of interest--and I will get the preliminary threads up right away.

(31,464 posts)That's not just a subject line...read on. This story is almost eerie if you believe in spooky coincidences.
>>> First of all, a super-special thank you to mnhtnbb for stepping up to the plate and helping me out. Life got in the way of my hosting duties, and as usual, DUers are stand-up people! <<<
Now, about that subject line; this is kind of weird. The picture that earned me the coveted "DU Photo Contest" award for April, "Inverted Lily" (my first entry, and April happens to be my birth month), has enjoyed a spot on my dining room wall for months. It's one of my favorite pictures, and while I don't usually hang much of my own stuff in the home, I loved this one enough to give it some wall space. The simple white wooden frame and wide double shadow matte made for a pretty beautiful display, if I do say so myself.
Today, after getting home from a morning project (expecting to finally upload the contest preliminaries, until mnhtnbb graciously offered to help me out), I passed through the dining room and noticed a moth had landed on the frame. We have plaster walls, so no nails. Instead, pictures hang by wire from a picture-rail which runs along the top edge of the wall -- museum-style.
I went to brush the moth away, and in doing so I hit the edge of the frame just right, and the entire thing came crashing to the ground, sending shattered glass all over the carpet, and breaking the frame into two pieces. At least the glass didn't damage the print or the matte. But it's very weird that on the day I have to back away from my Photo Contest duties, the very photo which won the contest comes crashing to the ground. (Cue Twilight Zone Theme).
I'm avoiding black cats, ladders, and mirrors for the rest of the day.

No problem from here. Happy to help.
What a terrific and varied lot of entries, too! Great theme!
