(31,386 posts)---1024 pixels for longest side and 675K for file size---
If you need help with resizing--currently we have one entry hosted by imgur--please ask.
I do not use imgur but perhaps someone who does can help Viva_ La_ Revolution with the entry, Hydrangea, for how to
resize on imgur?
Thanks!

(18,219 posts)Already so many great shots. But I will not be intimidated!
Mira
(22,380 posts)and not ashamed to admit it. This spring did not happen properly. It was spring for a weekend. Then it was summer, and then weirdness prevailed. My February and March were like May, and then May was like March.
Too damn weird.
CC
(8,039 posts)only we had a tease of May once or twice now it seems to be July. My peonies finally started blooming Sunday. Took pics yesterday, upload today.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)However, the things that happen in spring still happened.....the same flowers bloomed, the leaves leafed out, the grass greened up. But yes, the weather wasn't as nice as I would have liked to be out enjoying photography.
Just a few weeks ago, there was a week where I had a wool sweater on, and had to put shorts and a tank top on. Now that is a swing in temps.

(18,219 posts)Yours is much nicer than mine. Love the color you pulled out on it and the focus is spot on. There is no rule that you can't also have a bleeding heart...just name it something else.
The one you did submit is also lovely.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)the one i used was one i considered for the contest last spring and i was just as happy to submit it.

(90,764 posts)I'm hoping to get my shot tomorrow. Or hit the archives. Or something.
That fly is a killer shot.
mnhtnbb

(18,219 posts)So far, I expect that one to win. Not that I am good at calling the winner, and not that there will not be a more stunning photo show up. But the pastel of that shot doesn't even look real...like it is a watercolor.
I've been thinking of France a lot today because of all of the horrendous flooding that's affecting so much of the country. It's such a beautiful country, the little towns with their cobblestone streets and old fashioned gardens. Makes me sad to see the photos of the streets underwater.
Mira
(22,380 posts)But I"m so glad they are doing it, and it's over water, not a war with the Krauts.
(you know I'm kidding, I'm a Kraut)

(22,380 posts)because you did not. Just kidding. I can't touch your work with birds.
Quantess
(27,630 posts)"submissions will be limited to 30 entries maximum" Do the hosts choose which ones to submit, pre-voting, or...? But it also says one entry per person.
CC
(8,039 posts)and no more than 30 submissions by 30 different people total. If there are less than 30 by the end date to submit it is up to the host if they want to close it or give it more time. I hope this helps and does not cause more confusion but it is late. The host is the final word on the contest they are running.

Quantess This message was self-deleted by its author.
CC
(8,039 posts)but I don't know how to do it with Imgur. Hopefully someone that does know will come along soon. Maybe try going through the whole thread on how to post a picture and see if someone else added it in the comments.
Quantess
(27,630 posts)I just bought a camera and have been playing around. I think it's pretty too, but I have my doubts it'll make the cut, seeing all the other submissions so far! But I want to try at least.
CC
(8,039 posts)It is free and has been easy for me. For it you sign up and that is easy enough, just follow their instructions. There is a how to post from there to here in the thread near the top. There is at least one other person that uses Imgur I think. I just cannot remember who. You might want to do a "start a discussion" post asking so they see it when they come in.
As for your photo, it is good enough to win but 2nd place is the real winner. They don't have to run the next contest. lol When it comes to voting it is anyone guess who will win. I think that is most of the fun of entering.
I am also off to start the day so need to shut down and get on the road. There will be others come along that will help and I'll check in tonight. Send a pm of you need anything else and I'll try to help.
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)and getting it sized correctly. I've offered a link using my photobucket account for the entry.
Quantess photo will definitely be in the preliminaries since it is among the first 30 submissions.
I appreciate not only your help, not just your patience in instructing me on the how-to's but also your patience in understanding that I have a lot of other things going on besides this
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)I don't use imgur. We have had two imgur users have difficulty trying to resize their photos
for submission using imgur. Would someone who uses imgur please post the steps to follow
for resizing on imgur to get a photo link for submission that has a photo sized to meet
our limits of 1024 px longest side and 675 K file size?
Thanks!
CC
(8,039 posts)when I was trying to help so it might be way later before they get one here. Good that you know the entry was there.
I'm hoping someone does to a step by step. Then I might redo the how to thread with just the different how toos.
justiceischeap
(14,040 posts)That was my problem, I saved an image in my iPhone from Flickr (that wasn't resized) and then uploaded to imgur. There doesn't seem to be resize tools in imgur for mobile.
On desktop, there are cropping tools in the upper left hand corner (or there used to be according to my memory)--I think you can also resize from there too.
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)There are directions here to post photos from flikr
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1036&pid=36130
whether you can edit photos on flikr--resize, crop, etc, I don't know, but I imagine somebody who uses flikr could answer that question.
justiceischeap
(14,040 posts)because you can pick sizes, not so with their mobile app.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)dug into the archives since i didn't shoot much this spring.
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)Easiest way to do that is to preview your post before you post it. Right click on your photo
and select View Image Info. That will give you the pixel dimensions and the file size so you
can determine if you meet the rules.
Longest side not to exceed 1024 px and file size 675K.
Please check your photos. If people are viewing these entries on a classic screen set-up (go in My Account and look to see if you've checked
classic or standard for Preferred format for regular web browsers) then photos with larger pixel size appear to have an advantage. That's the reason for the rule.
Please check your photos before submitting.
Thanks!
edhopper
(33,575 posts)will double check next time.
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)I had no idea about the screen formats and the difference they made--classic or standard--since my settings were on standard
until after I hosted my first contest.
edhopper
(33,575 posts)but I the resolution setting changed it. It went from 180 to 200, which increased the size.
Anyway, I enjoy seeing all those pictures.
I was just at an Iris Garden a few weeks ago, so I am glad i had something to post.
a la izquierda
(11,794 posts)I used to use photo bucked and then got locked out of my account. I think I figured it out, but let me edit my submission and I'll see if it worked.
I'm still not 100% sure that I got the resizing right. I haven't a clue as to how to check it (so if someone could let me know, I'll report on what I did for Imgur resizing).
Thanks
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)astral
(2,531 posts)I picked out an entry but cant figure out how to post it. Do you have To be a member of the photography group to post a picture?
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)We love having new people join in the contests!
You do have to use something like photobucket or imgur or flikr to upload your photo, check to be sure it is sized
to meet our rules (no longer than 1024 px on longest side and preferably less than 675K file size)
then paste the IMG code in to the text of your post. (Put the title for your photo in the reply title line in the Submissions thread)
The directions for using photobucket are posted here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1036&pid=23797
thanks, I am out of luck on this contest as photobucket doesnt allow mee to register today. may find another option in time for the next one, just took some great picturs last weekend ; (
Thee other pics are amazing, I sure wasn't planning to 'win,' just to share!
I think you have a "winner"!
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)Photos submitted are those taken by the photographer and the photographer agrees to certain contest rules when making
the submission.
I'd love to put "Wild Field" in the Spring Photo Contest, but I can't do it unless astral submits the photo.
handmade34
(22,756 posts)she took a lovely photo and it just happened to come through my Photobucket account... the photo is astral's and she deserves to enter
astral
(2,531 posts)to all concerned:
I accepted Handmaid34's gracious offer to post my pic when I was failing to do it. If there is anything I can do to show I am submitting the picture and I am accepting the terms/rules, I will do so. If not, I will be a good sport and hope to have it figured out for the next time. I was trying to use Photobucket and it just wasn't functioning for me.
Either way it's a kick to see all the pics as usual and to see mine here too ; ) ! if only for the moment...
my winky face was supposed to look like this: ; )
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)about using my account--as host--to post her photo in the prelims.
Photobucket has chosen this morning to be wonky, too, so prelims will be up some time later this morning.
I have finally--after multiple fails at trying to upload astral's photo to my account from my computer--done it going the URL route
on photobucket.
Waiting for her to give me the ok to use that link for the entry.

(1,771 posts)Please don't tell me you took that with a cellphone. Even if you did, lie to me. Tell me it was like a camera without the phone.
What an incredible ride scrolling down through the photos. Kudos everyone!!!
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)We do have a lot of gorgeous photos. It's going to be a close contest, I think!

(7,347 posts)I did not take it with a cellphone! A Sony DSC-WX80 point & shoot that had a pretty good lens. I say "had" because it is unfortunately no longer working. So I took this I think last spring.
Thank you for the compliment! I also really enjoy all the entries, they are all very beautiful, I love color and there's plenty of it here!
I chose my photo because to me it has a primeval "Rite of Spring" air to it, like I'd expect to see wood nymphs come dancing along...
I took it an arboretum on the edge of the Cal State Fullerton campus on one of those "Gray May" days that starts out cool and moist but then burns off and it gets muggy.

(31,386 posts)Just sitting back and enjoying!
mnhtnbb
(31,386 posts)If I can do a cemetery, surely you have a spring sunset or a back at the cottage or something!
You had a still life you posted--with some of your first spring flowers cut in vases--I really liked that. Did you post it here,
or was it fb?
elleng
(130,895 posts)but with the posts here already there's no way I could compete!
And that's one heckuva cemetery!

Hope to see some more entries!
