A few images from Chicago.

Last edited Sun Jul 23, 2017, 08:42 PM - Edit history (2)

We spent last week in Chicago. It was our first trip there. Ate some fantastic deep dish and barbecue, and generally had a great time.

I schlepped my camera and three lenses on the trip, but ended up using my iPhone 6s (Note to self: be sure the battery on the Nikon is fully charged before you go, and oh yeah, be sure to toss the battery charger in for good measure). I ran everything through Lightroom but I didn't correct for distortion on most of them because I kind of liked the effect.

We do have a wonderful and impressive city. Problems, yes, but a great city that can overcome them.

I don't know what we expected to find, but we found a very cosmopolitan, gorgeous city. We were overwhelmed by the amount of trees, parks, plantings, etc. . Wonderful eateries everywhere, and tons of things to do. We walked all over the place but also used public transit, which was excellent. The architecture was impressive, and so many beautiful buildings. Weather was generally good, although it was 96* Sunday before last, with about 50% humidity. I know that isn't particularly high humidity, but we live in a part of California that has consistently low humidity levels.

We will definitely be making return trips!

Truly, I don't think there was anything we didn't enjoy on this trip. Of course, everything was new to us so everything was interesting; still, we walked around in pretty much a constant state of amazement. We are only about 35 miles east of San Francisco and go into the city pretty regularly, but we were simply overwhelmed and amazed by the beauty of Chicago's north side.

to art institute and then further south side is the museum campus then even further south to Hyde Park . Lagoons & Japanese gardens in Jackson park are great for photos
Maybe return there after the Obama library opens and even further south to the cultural center and that is just along the lakefront ! Both the north and south side have unique neighborhoods going west from the lake front area which are still more areas to explore and photo opportunities Hey that's just within the city
I haven't visited the river walk at night yet , but I have some out of towers coming in July and will check it out in the evening . They are coming for the Taste of Chicago , a big fest in July. This weekend is the big Gay Parade. Lots to do here if you want or just relax and enjoy the scenery

I really like the little girl looking out over the city from Sears tower, the one with the almost metallic clouds/buildings, and the last one of Lincoln Park.

When we lived in MO and NE, Chicago was our "go-to" city, but before I became interested in photography and back in the days of film.

Thanks for posting!

Good to hear from you, hope you are well.
Chicago is only four hours, nonstop, from us by plane. We will certainly mark it as a new destination.
