(17,288 posts)In 1982 I went to a job fair at the student union at Ga Tech. I walked around asking each table if it snowed there....Endicott guy said yes, Burlington guy said yes, Rochester guy said yes. Tucson guy said look at this picture of the Santa Catalina's in the Sonoran desert in Tucson. That's all it took. I never took another interview and thankfully the Tucson guy offered me a job! So, yep, I too love the desert.🌵🌞

(19,459 posts)That's where the desert smote me.
I've driven across the Sonoran Desert twice; both times were road trips from Philly to Atlanta to California, but have never spent time there.

(19,459 posts)The light was quickly falling. ISO is difficult for me, and I ended up with quite a bit of noise.
I may try them in b&w:

(31,388 posts)Have you had any luck looking for a place?

(19,459 posts)We are still looking, primarily in the area around Julian. It's nice hill country, and if you go just a few miles east of town it drops pretty much straight down into the Anza-Borrego Desert area.
Plus, it's vaguely half way between daughters in La Jolla and Redlands area, and my wife wants to be close to granddaughter.
How's life on the other side of the continent?

(31,388 posts)in Pine Hills for a few years in the late 70's-early 80's. My dad was a pretty serious amateur astronomer and he built an observatory
for his telescope and small cabin there. I was only there to visit once but it was nice. He loved that area--both desert and mountains.
I'm debating whether to sign on the dotted line to rent a beach house from Dec-March (totally off season here) so we could come and
go depending upon schedule/weather this winter without a lot of pre-planning. The meteorologists are predicting a warmer than normal
winter in the south. Could be a lot of 60 degree days at the beach here which would be very pleasant. I have to decide today because
the owners of the place I have my eye on tell me they're getting inquiries for January...
Could be a lot of beach photos coming up from me!
