I hope you're not in an earthquake zone or a wildfire/mudslide zone. I'm not trying to jinx you or anything, but sunny California has it's downsides as well. Anyplace can be a paradise with the correct attitude.

54. We have lived in California nearly all our lives, and have ridden out countless quakes!

Our house is as sturdy as can be built and has endured quakes without trouble.

We're nowhere near any place that could have a mudslide. It is hilly here, but there's lots of well-watered vegetation with deep roots to hold the ground.

Well, unless we have a Richter 9 quake!
