First Flower of Spring

As March marks the usual beginning of "photography season" here in the Pacific Northwest, I made my annual trip up to the Skagit flats for the daffodil fields (the tulips, for which the area is most famous, won't bloom until April). When I first arrived, it was solid overcast and not conducive to photography but, eventually, the clouds cleared enough to give us a great sky to go with the yellow carpets.

After which, it was off to Rosario Beach for (eventual) sunset light.

As usual, I produced a YouTube video of my shoot. After several vlogs that were really more practice than anything, this is the first time I produced a video that gives a fair example of what I hope to accomplish with my channel. Check it out!

As always, your photos are phenomenally beautiful! I'm especially taken with the daffodil close-up. It's wonderful.

And your evening beach shots are incredible. Just the right balance of dark pinks/violets and the water and rocks...Amazing.

I will watch the video a bit later on my desktop; the sound on my laptop is just too damn tinny. I'm sure your video will be wonderful too.

Thank you so much for your contributions to DU! Your wonderful photos remind us that there is more to this life than the awful stuff elsewhere.

We are tulip-chasers and hope to come to your area this year or next. These wonderful photos sure up the chances of that!

I tend to find the dafs a bit boring, so I have not yet decided if I am going to go up to the fields on Wednesday or just wait for the tulips....

The drive from Whidbey Island thru Skagit on the way up to Bellingham, and return, was always so gorgeous in the spring.

So glad the sun came out for your day....

I love daffodils. My friend who lives in the mountains, plants them everywhere & claims they're one flower the deer won't eat.
