But the interior photo just pops off the page!

The details, the colors, the absolute glory of it makes for one incredible photo.

Wow.

I was told not to take photos after that one was already in the can. Only was able to take that one, in a pretty dark church. It was a wonderfully gorgeous warm spring day, too. Now sitting in bed in a B&B, a boat in the Danube. About 50 bucks a night to be shared.

I'm always struck by the ostentatious display of wealth in churches. We lived in various european countries when I was growing up and my parents hauled us around to see all the huge cathedrals with imposing architecture. I still remember that it was all very impressive, but they were warehouses of dazzling treasures with brilliant displays of golden fripperies, priceless tapestries, beautiful artworks, and fantastic interiors. Now I'm too old and set in my bourgeois attitude to see past the inequality.

I came away from strolling through its museum astonished at the wealth on display.

Keep 'em afraid for their souls and donating money. What a con.

And when we were in Peru we heard about how the Spaniards stripped all the gold and silver from the Inca shrines to ship back to Spain and forced
the natives to construct cathedrals over the places where their religious shrines had stood.
