Went on a Photo Safari with B&H Photo and Leica this week, we were given a list of clues of things to shoot and different shooting techniques, oh yeah, and a Leica X1 to shoot with.
I have to say that there is a whole lot that I like about this camera and there are a couple of things that for a $2,000 camera are pretty annoying such as the shutter lag which is so long it makes the decisive moment into the decisive best guess. On the plus side the camera size matched with the APS-C sensor makes this a great street shooter, I only wish I had a bit more time with it.
Some of the things they were looking for was a Triptych, a Bokeh shot, an environmental portrait of a skate guard, a pan shot, the Grace Building and the NYPL Lions

(60,250 posts)is that lens distortion?
If price was no issue, shutter lag would be the only disqualifier in my opinion.
Was this a tie in with the Steve Huff site?

(4,483 posts)And no this wasn't a Huff tie in. B&H has these photo safaris throughout the year generally with another photo partner, it's always a good opportunity to have a hands on experience with a piece of equiptment and usually there's some sort of swag at the end.

It would have been nice if the swag was

(4,483 posts)I got a Leica bag and a 2 for 1 to ICP but I've scored better like a Crumpler camera bag and a Fuji Instax camera although time will tell on this one they are giving a $500 B&H gift certificate to one of the participants.
Anyone in the NYC area should check their site and try to attend something at the Event Space, one of the best things you can do for free in NYC

(330 posts)Great shots. Curious focal on the skater.
The skater was a hand held pan f16, 1/15 sec., iso 100, I was happy to get it considering the lighting was less than optimal for a shot like that and with the shutter lag took me some time to get into the panning rhythm.
That's why I like these events, you have to adjust to new equiptment pretty quickly.

Shutter lag is a for sure rule-out for me. Can't handle it at all.

(4,483 posts)No camera is without its flaws and while shutter lag is a big flaw by the end of the day I was pretty much working around it. I found it to be a pretty good street shooter my only reservation is that by the time you add in the accessories you're over $2500 and honestly I'd rather wait and make the huge leap into M9 land.
