Sabino Canyon... and up at the top near Mt. Lemmon too.

Someplace up there I ran across the wreck of an airplane... wheels and part of the fuselage... I don't remember exactly where I found it, but it was already pretty far gone... and this was back in the late 1970s when I ran into it.

2. That was probably one of two USAF T-33 trainer jets that collided in the 1950s, IIRC

The pilots bailed out, and survived. The wreckage is near Green Mountain, southeast of Mt. Bigelow.

Finger Rock is a tough hike! At 70, I'll stick to the bunny trails.

I was 30 and my Brother-in-Law was maybe 40... both of us in "good shape".

We got up early and hit the trail head off Skyline right at day break...

So we are huffing and puffing along... dragging our already tired butts up the trail and around 10am there was this couple coming BACK DOWN and seem to not even be sweating... they wished us good luck and said that conditions were good all the way to the top, they were headed back down to have a late lunch.

They were at least 65 years old. Just tooling along... started out at 4am in the dark.

All of a sudden I felt old and out of shape.

LOL

And she had a great view of the Catalinas.

I miss that view.

This is a bad snapshot from 2005 and just a small part of the view. We could see a little more to the left and then a long way off to the right. I'll have to look thru Mom's PC and see if she's got something better.

Skyline, just east of Sabino Canyon. We were the only houses up there then. A bobcat slept on the hood of my Corvette. It was pretty. I have pictures of the hills on fire about where they built the golf resort.

Really wonderful photo!! I just love everything about it. The framing, the exposure, the contrast... so good!!
