(19,459 posts)We had a really fantastic experience on our trip. Barcelona has been on my wifes bucket list for many years, and it didnt disappoint.
And I took your advice and took my dslr. I was very paranoid about pickpockets/theft before we left, but I neednt have been. In fact, if I left the camera back in the room for any reason it was because we were going to walk a lot that day and the camera is a 4 1/2 pound weight around my neck (and I didnt feel like hauling the camera pack around)🙂. The cellphone camera was fine on a few days.
We want to return to Spain in a couple of years, and do some more exploring. We try to take a big trip every year, and this was the best from the last five years or so.

(19,459 posts)I don't think we talked about anything camera-wise, other than simple precautions when walking about. It's been quite awhile ago, as I'd been planning that trip off and on for about a year.

(63,900 posts)Yes, I heartily recommended stuff to see/do in Spain. The Pyrenees just about undid me it was so laden with historical significance and downright lovely. And the ART!!! And the food, and the wine...

(19,459 posts)I think it would be difficult to take a bad photo in any of these places.

(19,459 posts)I'm trying to do more on the Manual setting but I ended up falling back on Aperture Priority much of the time, and using exposure compensation adjustments. All of those lighting types and directions and angles.
Wish I had done better correcting for distortion in post, as well.

(31,381 posts)I was there at the end of July. Horribly hot. Taxis on strike. Took the metro from my hotel. Struggling with my bad leg. My best shots are close-ups of some of the lower windows on the east side incorporating the iron railings taken late afternoon. The light was a real challenge.
It really is an amazing structure.

(19,459 posts)I think we stayed about 90 minutes. My wife did the Nativity tower thing.
We were there mid-September. Not too hot (low to-mid-80's). A couple of the days were pretty humid compared to Northern California.
The lighting was difficult, and I had issues with white balance. I also wish I had done better correcting distortion in Lightroom because I ended up with a weird twist in some of the images in both OP's.
It is amazing. Afterward we went to the Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia. What a difference.
