(22,380 posts)In the Teutoburger Forest. I went there from Karlsruhe by train - 5 wonderful hours of rolling carelessly through the landscape - to see/climb the Externsteine.
Will be showing some photos of them when I have recovered. Hiking 15 km through deep woods up and down in very hilly land has done me in.

(54,349 posts)I live in Nordrhein-Westfalen, near Düsseldorf. Der Teutoburger Wald is about 90 minutes from here by car.
You must not be far from Osnabrück, right?

(2,065 posts)That's the song that comes to mind when I reflect on the fine sentiments expressed in this posting. Unfortunately, the nightmare that we have been living through as a nation for the past few years was brought on, in very large measure, I feel, by the excessive complacency of American voters, who took their democracy too much for granted. I suppose we had to go through the experience of almost losing our democracy in order to experience a rebirth of appreciation for it.
