Gliderport - 1973

Scanned an old favorite from my post-Vietnam gliderport days. I have always loved this photo, but there are many, many technical issues with it. So I rendered it as a pastel mosaic, and the result is a photo that captures the gauzy, Elysian-Fields feeling of those post-war days.

It was a grass strip in western Conn. Owned by four airline pilots. I would take a lesson and hang out all day.. Schweitzer, Blanck's and one or two custom European hot rod gliders. What I loved was that you were using your skill and your brain to keep you up in the air. Not just push the power button. They were beautifully quiet also... 40 mph and all you heard was the woosh.
Lots of great stories and memories..
