Sunset and Sunrise

Last night I noticed the color in the sky through the bedroom from my living room where I was watching the news. Went to get my camera and ended up standing on my bed shooting through the very dirty window to get these two shots. This was about 20 minutes after two police cars were circling the park across the street making an announcement via loudspeaker that "we are under a state of emergency. You are directed to disperse and return to your homes." Our mayor had decreed a curfew beginning at 8 pm after two nights of violent rioting, breaking windows, looting, starting fires. There was no group anywhere on the streets that I could see from my apartment.

About an hour later, Rachel reported on the type of announcement that would need to be made in order to enforce the Insurrection Act. She used the same words that I had heard an hour earlier.

Are we approaching the sunset of our democracy?

I hope the answer to that question is no. The sunrise this morning colored that hope, because there is blue sky to be seen above the fiery horizon.

These shots are from my balcony.

We are experiencing a period of extreme upheaval, but I liken it to someone being sick. The landscape, both internal and external, is completely destroyed...........but we're not dead. Nor is our democracy. We will heal.
