I have my own 'War of the Roses' going on in my gardens

The bold Lancastrian Red Rose vs the slightly meek Yorkist White Rose. Of course, this only makes sense if you are a student of English history. And if you are, you would know from exactly which side of that battle I draw my blood line. (Admittedly, they both have their own unique beauty.)

The Lancastrian rose looks like a rose to my modern non-historical eye!

The Yorkist rose almost doesn't look like any modern rose. I guess roses have evolved over time but this type stayed as it was.

I like the fact that you have a bit of British history in your yard.

It grows along the vegetable garden fence, and is a big, sprawling rose bush. It is particularly lush, this year and has a lovely scent.

There are wild roses here which come alive with Bumblebees every year. I transplanted some from the edge of the meadow into my garden where they've literally taken over within the past 10 years. But they're so lovely, I don't mind at all.
