The clutch of eggs numbered 5 and I see at least 3 hatchlings. I know this isn't a good pic, but the way they've situated the nest and woven it into the parsley plant I can't get a suitable angle and can't clear a view without disturbing the structure of the nest.
Eh, so it's not Audubon worthy, I'm still an Uncle . . sort of.

Enjoy your new family before they take flight!

(14,559 posts)There is a squirrel that visits the bird feeders also on my balcony. If the squirrel is on-site I get no rest until I go out and chase the little beggar completely off the balcony. The little feathered fury is fearless!

(40,168 posts)They have a tune for all occasions - happy, agitated, or inbetween.
They generally nest close to the house and for several winters we had a pair of Carolina wrens that took up residence in a pair of old barbecue mitts that hung in a woodshed outside our back door.
Our first wren family of the season has completed flight school and departed, the second is busy building a nest in another corner of the shed.
Enjoy your new extended family while they're here!

(14,559 posts)Balcony runs across the 40' width of the house and is surrounded by trees. Had a mocking bird nest in the oak on the east side, unfortunately not in a place that I could photograph it. Had great times watching the birds chase the squirrels down the tree to my geriatric Schnauzer who would wait at the foot of the tree and chase them back up to welcoming birds. I could watch this for many minutes until the squirrel would finally get past the bird leap to a nearby tree only to be welcomed by another bird with another nest.

(34,136 posts)My sister had a cardinal's nest just outside her backdoor. She and her husband avoided using that door, but then realized the squirrels were invading the nest and taking the baby cardinals. They've now taken all the cardinal chicks and my sister hopes the cardinals find a safer place for their next nest.
On the other hand, the red shouldered hawks have a nest on the street side and instead of feeding their babies squirrels, they are catching freshwater turtles for them.
That's where my daughter's nest is, outside her back door; I sure hope squirrels don't get to it, and my grandkids don't hear about it.
There might be hawks there, but don't know where turtles would hang out.
