July photo contest theme and timeline!
With flamin lib's May photo contest win, he gets the honor of choosing the theme for July. The theme chosen by flaming lib is “I made this”. Now I know that you’re thinking, what does that mean? Flamin lib was wondering how I would explain the theme, so I’m just going to be lazy and copy the explanation that he wrote to me.
I've been priming the pump with DIY articles and I want to encourage participation and stretch the talents of our participants. In a effort to do that I want the next contest to be about being involved in creating the image. The idea isn't to make pictures of interesting things but to make interesting pictures of things. Anything from trimming leaves around a flower to a full fledged studio. Added light, subtracted light, moving stuff, adding an element or post processing. Anything that a photographer can do to be involved in MAKING an image. Anything from Henri Cartier-Bresson who would set up a composition and wait for the final element to finish the image (Me, I'f just pay the kid on a bike to ride by this stair well on this street). That one extra step. I've seen it in the entrants in other contests but I want it to be the central idea in this one.
So not so much a contest against other photographers but an exhibition of active talent. A contest that by simply entering makes a winner of everybody by improving the eye and the talent of the participants. Maybe use the comments thread to let entrants tell us what they did and help improve other's abilities.
What a great challenge flamin lib has given us. That is why I’m posting this a bit early.
Get those creative juices flowing. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.
July photo contest timelines:
I will open the competition to entries on July 15th
Will close the competition for entries on July 22nd or when we get 30 entries
First round of voting July 22nd for 3 days
Final round of voting July 26th for 3 days
Winner announced July 29th and the prize is taking part in a great competition along with a multitude of accolades from DU people. The winner will not have to host the next competition.
I hope to see 30 original photos so spread the news far and wide please. And I may just take Soph0571's lead (by the way she ran a great contest), and do a little nagging too!

We are now on a "first name basis". 
Maybe a short explanation in the title like:
Two candles using poster-board as backdrop taped to kitchen wall
Also, I think the comments thread would be appropriate too. I'll post something in both the comments thread and also the submission thread.
