2020 has been a really crappy year so far and yesterday I found myself spiraling down into a dark place. I decided to focus on some of the small things that bring me joy....
a slice on homemade banana bread and some time in the back yard with my camera. I can't share the banana bread but check out these beauties:

(26,256 posts)Some years the blossom clusters are the size of a dinner plate. This year it's more of a dessert plate but still absolutely lovely.

(10,014 posts)I have a dozen plants ranging from 4 to 8 years old and not a bloom on any of them. Im thinking of replacing them with something more reliable for my microclimate.

(13,225 posts)I haven't added anything to the soil and these seem to thrive on neglect. I have another large hydrangea of the endless summer variety, but its flowers are a pale blue with a hint of turquoise.

(1,402 posts)These are beautiful.....I have a white ones and it has always been about 10-12" around. I planted another bush too close and it took over my hydrangea and we took the other bush out so now, hopefully my one hydrangea will make a comeback. It has about 8 blossoms but they are not as large. I love it, tho!! Thanks for posting the pictures!!

(13,225 posts)and I occasionally water them if it has been dry. In the spring I cut back dead stalks after the new leaves start. They seem to thrive on neglect.

(23,083 posts)We had 2 giant bushes by the garage, we called them cloud plants and loved them so much. I also have hydrangeas now in the flowerbeds by the front of the house. I have one that flowers with hot pink blooms, my smallest one is very dark purple, and the other 2 are the purple blue shown here Love these plants!

(5,066 posts)That red tones were produced if the soil was neutral and blue ones are grown in acidic soil I find it interesting you have both colors.
They are stunning and one of the things I really like about them is the blooms last a long time.

(11,639 posts)A couple days ago. Several places on the banks were carpeted with hydrangeas. Blooming in all shades. Theyre not native to Oregon so they must have escaped from someones garden. The places where they were blooming were not very accessible - very steep, overgrown, lots of downed trees. Very showy.
