(10,484 posts)More points for the pic being an example of skillful photography or more for a pleasant or favored subject?
I try to go with the former, but not sure I always succeed.
Thought I might do a poll, but don't see that option in this Android app.

(7,878 posts)There's a variety of reasons I vote for specific photos.
During the Preliminary Vote:
1) There are the 'lucky captures' when the Member was in the right place at the right time AND had their camera handy AND got a good shot.
2) For planned and staged photos, I'm more critical for obvious reasons.
3) Aesthetically pleasing photos can be lucky captures or planned. For those, it's the subject matter that guides me.
During the Final Vote:
I simply choose the photo that I wish I had taken.

(10,484 posts)I do wonder about photo contests in general, jthough, just what I'm asking here: What criteria do people use to decide which photos are winners?
Would love to hear from more people about this. Also trying to figure out a more exact answer on how I decide!

(37,263 posts)While the subject does play a part in my vote, I won't vote for a poor photo just because I like the subject.

(11,648 posts)There might be more submissions if the contest in advertised in the GD and in the Lounge.

(9,685 posts)I was literally going to post have I missed the competition and just I was about to do it remembered you had already put it up! I have been at such sixes and sevens I completely forgot.

(156,490 posts)And I love your entry! It's perfect: atmospheric, spooky, the works!

(9,685 posts)I went to that meeting/interview today and it went so well. Fingers crossed I am going to get an offer very soon. The COO actually said she would love working with me... so I think she is doing the sums. It was great to put on a suit and go to an office and actually be back in my groove.

(156,490 posts)My fingers are crossed too--unless I'm typing!
It sure sounds auspicious!

(9,685 posts)I thought you might put up one of your moons and photoshop a flying witch into it
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,490 posts)That level of photoshop is, for now, beyond me.
Maybe someday.....!
Soph0571
(9,685 posts)And I can do it for you

(156,490 posts)But for a contest, I believe all the work must be done by the photographer.
