From such delicacy that the wind blows it right down the beach
to the force of the waves breaking 25-50 yards from shore
to wind so strong it blew my cap off right after I took this shot and I had to chase it down the beach to retrieve it right before it ended up in the ocean.
Video of the ocean this morning.
This is what the ocean looks like normally--and did the day I arrived.

(2,143 posts)It brings back such fond memories. It's one of my favorite places on earth. Tied with Grand Canyon and Sabino Canyon, both in AZ.
Have you seen any sharks' teeth among the shells? I found a few last time was there. Too long ago. Before I moved a little further inland.

Love the video too.
Seeing your photos almost makes me feel as though I'm on vacation too, and I thank you for that!

(31,380 posts)because it is such a respite and distraction from the looming Election Day.
I don't go out with my camera at home. Doing so here not only takes the time to shoot, but also play with editing photos afterwards. It's a wonderful distraction. I have the Light Classical music cable channel on the TV and I can sit at the dining room table playing with photos while I look out at the ocean. Sigh.

(6,110 posts)I love EI this time of year, when the color of the ocean changes, the winds shift around, and most of the people are gone. I grew up just inland from the south end of the island. Long before there was a bridge, long before even a ferry to the mainland, before they finished paving the road.
Your photos really capture the feel of the place. I can almost smell the ocean and the marshes. Thank you for sharing.

(31,380 posts)Almost always at least a couple of spectacular sunrises and memorable sunsets. I love seeing the formations of pelicans flying overhead or over the waves. Have not seen any porpoises swimming along wave breaks this trip, which usually I do.
Lucky you to have grown up nearby!
