So rich in life and fecundity it refuses to let you see it all at one time. It surrounds you, closes in on you. With cypress trees reaching too high to see their tops and moss draping like curtains all around you are enclosed in this space for this minute. Make a turn in the bayou and another room opens but you can't see the whole house much less the cul-de-sac. The best you can do is record each new view as another turn in the bayou shows it to you.

I really need to go back in the late spring. Not sure I'll survive another August at my age.
