Pure speculation for Olympus Photographers (Oly's future)
Sony just introduced an new 40+ meg sensor.
Sensor specs indicate it is for industrial applications, specifically FA (factory automation)
JIP (OLY image division's new owner) announced early on that part of the profitability plan was to expand into 'other applications' such as surveillance, etc.
OMD Solutions (new Olympus imaging company) announced cooperation with Sony: we design sensors, you build them for us.
FA is currently the domain of Ricoh/Pentax. It is a large field for digital imaging. The largest demand for high quality high speed imaging is Factory Automation as in robotic 'pick and place' machines for PC board assembly.
This could be a lucrative expansion of market for OMD thereby supporting the flagging camera division. As in every industry one branch influences the other so there will no doubt be cross pollination between cameras and FA just as there was between cameras and medical equipment under Olympus Corp.
I have no data or backstory to support this speculation other than bread crumbs and dot connecting so grains of salt are highly recommended. In any event if this comes to be it can shore up the finances to ensure the continuation of OMD cameras.
