.....the genus aristolochia.

i've grown several different species of aristolochia while living in austin and costa rica. their pollination strategy is especially interesting. the flower smells like rotting meat and attracts flies, which become the pollinators. despite the odor (and it got strong when i had several large vines of A. grandiflora in a very small walled-in yard) the flowers are intriguing.
