(14,726 posts)I enjoy them (thus the feeder) but would like something esoteric.

(31,999 posts)Before I saw this bird. You just never know!

Diamond_Dog
(31,999 posts)I do hear the cardinals every morning when I take Sophie out, chanting their pret-ty, pret-ty song.
I have to be honest, this photo is from my archives. Im hoping they return this spring, too.

(266 posts)That one seems to have both male and female markings - perhaps a juvenile male? Great shot!

What a lovely bird....and a beautiful photo!

(31,999 posts)We had our feeders up for a couple years before we saw this bird! They seem to like sunflower seeds.
Blue Dawn
(892 posts)I primarily do put black oil sunflower seeds in my feeders. I think I am going to do some research and see if these little guys are indigenous to our area. I would be thrilled to see them!
I get so much joy watching the variety of birds we see every day. We have titmice, bluebirds, cardinals, robins, chickadees, blue jays, doves, owls, woodpeckers, mockingbirds, and many finches. The bluebirds will sit on the electric wire and scope out our front yard for bugs and then quickly swoop down for a meal! I think they are such pretty birds. We can also hear the owls calling to one another when our windows are open in the evening.
Birds have brought a lot of joy to my life during this pandemic.

(23,314 posts)I've never gotten a rose-breasted grosbeak at my feeders. Once a year or so we will get an influx of evening grosbeaks that are breathtaking to see. They will empty our feeders in nothing flat!! Right now we have too many house sparrows and I wish they'd go away...they keep the cool songbirds from coming to see us.

(13,569 posts)My latest squirrel proof feeder was raided yesterday. Sigh.
Diamond_Dog
(31,999 posts)I chase them out when I see them. They surely will find a way to sabotage a squirrel prof bird feeder!
Even worse, about 6 or 8 grackles can clean out a feeder in minutes.

(3,613 posts)It was gorgeous! I have lots and lots of Black Headed Grosbeaks all the time, but I haven't seen the Rose-breasted Grosbeak again.
