Exciting new developments from Canon (photography).

The Canon EOS R3 packs "next generation Dual Pixel AF", a stacked BSI sensor, 30fps shooting and Eye Control focus.https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/news/canon-eos-r3-announced-shoot-at-30fps-and-move-af-points-with-your-eyes
Looks like Canon is poised to become an innovation leader! Doing more than just increasing pixel count! I guess when they decided to go from DSLR to Mirrorless they took the blinders off the engineers!

Canon announces $11,999 Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM and $12,999 Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USMhttps://www.digitalcameraworld.com/news/canon-goes-pro-with-rf-400mm-f28l-and-rf-600mm-f4l-telephotos
And here I thought the m.Ziuiko 150-400+.5 converter (300-1000 eq) was expensive at $7,500. Still it's good to see them filling out the R lens lineup.

This is all very high end stuff. The technology in the new sensor is ground breaking and the move from DSLR to Mirrorless has opened doors for the design guys that didn't exist before. Good to see them busting those doors down!

Just another tidbit: when Canon and Nikon went mirrorless they changed their lens design. DSLR lenses present the image to the sensor much like the eye does; sort of in an X with the distance from lens to corner greater than center lens to center of sensor. In mirrorless designs the lens to sensor distance shrinks greatly making any chromatic aberration or vignetting more apparent. So the new standard is to correct the last lens elements to 'collimate' the light or straighten it so the distance from lens to sensor is the same at any point on the sensor. This is something the 4/3 consortium discovered early on. The result is lens designs that are superior in control of aberrations. Hope this makes sense . . .

You are right when you say this is all very high end stuff! Fascinating nonetheless.

As much as I love my Canons, I have to admit that Sony has incredible sensors. I love the sensor in my R5, but I still think the Sony sensors are a little bit cleaner. Maybe this new stacked sensor will even the score.

As far as 30 fps, I think they call that video! 😂 (just kidding). 😉
