In 2017 we backpacked the north side of Mt. Rainier. I took along my small sensor Sony wx150 camera, and got some nice photos.
This first one is looking at the Willis Wall of Mt. Rainier. It is the most unstable side, every hour or so something let's loose in an avalanche fall, it sounds like distant thunder. The mountain is talking. In the center of the frame you can see the avalanche dust cloud:
On our way out, smoke from eastern Washington forest fires was starting to move in, not low to the ground but it made for some unusual light:
Hiking out, above Berkely park, heading for Sunrise:
I had spent over 10 years looking for the mountain goats, never saw a single one. Then, as we rounded the corner, we literally had to walk past a herd of 20 or more. Had to wait 5 minutes for them to move out of the way!

I love the mountain goats! They are obviously more concerned with eating than they are spooked by you!
Thanks for sharing these.

(4,999 posts)Used to be able to walk to the end of the Carbon glacier -- only about 6 miles round trip and very level. It was exciting for kids and adults too! But the road washed out. I'm curious how far it has receded in the 20 or so years since we were there.
