What a wonderful sky to wake up to.

I'm not a morning person by any stretch, but I wouldn't mind waking up if I had a view like this!

It would actually be a pleasure to wake up early if I got to see such a beautiful landscape.
Incredible photo, George!

First thing I did was go grab the camera. No time to get outside, the colors change so quickly. Took three frames.

And then I let the dog out.

I love when people post these photos. My east is covered by trees having grown up so tall and I close to the base of a hill which blocks the western sky. Somewhat frustrating. This is a really lovely one. Thanks for posting.

I grew up in Connecticut. Hiked in New England. I know what you mean by tall trees and hills. Living in central Washington state is different.

But these photos always get me to wondering - can you tell whether it's a sunrise or sunset, just by looking at the photo? I certainly believe Mr. McG. when he says it was a sunrise(!), but I've always wondered if there are some signs or clues that distinguish one from the other. Does anyone know?

but this morning the whole sky was a pinkish orange thanks to heavy smoke from Arizona wildfires.

There is no rain in sight, either.

We breathed smoke from wildfires here last year. With no rain in sight, Warpy, it sounds like you are in a difficult place. Heavy smoke can affect sunrises and sunsets, but to me the resulting coloring of the sky is a negative thing.

Hope you get through it all.

and the air quality is only at the "unhealthful" level. Plus, everything stinks like smoke.

Local wildfires (and this is our season in the southwest) generally don't get this bad. AZ wildfires are huge and the two they have going are threatening a few small towns. What we need is rain and that doesn't happen during our fire season.

The sky was gorgeous. Sunset tonight would likely illustrate how Sandia (watermelon) Mountain got its name, it looks like a split watermelon on its side in a red sunset, but you'd have to be right next to it to see it right now.

like hummingbirds visiting the feeder and a zebra swallowtail stopping by on the Lantana!

I have a sunset view from my house, but have yet to see anything as stunning as some of the sunrises I witnessed from my apartment.
