Related: About this forumCongratulations to Legger for their successful contest entry.
Legger's very first post on DU was the photograph of the hummingbird, "Coming In For A Landing," in the August photo contest. It was tied for second place with two other great photos.
I've known Legger for thirty eight years. We first met when I dropped off a roll of Tri-X at her family's custom B&W Photo Lab in 1983. Fortunately for me, I had the good sense to marry her! Leslie and I celebrated our thirty sixth anniversary earlier this year. There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I married her for the free photoprocessing.
Leslie isn't able to start a thread since she is still a new DU member, so she asked me to thank everyone for their support.

(7,343 posts)Welcome to DU Legger! Your photo reminded me of the then cutting edge National Geographic photos that captured hummingbirds in flight with wings not blurred.

(57,073 posts)I'm about as far from a photographer as one could be. In fact, I joke about having bad camera karma. 🤣
All that said, I am perpetually in awe of the amazing talent you & others her display!
I love your hummingbird pix!
Can't wait to see more of your work!

(14 posts)Thank you to my sweet hubby, Ross, for encouraging me to enter DU August Photo Contest. Enjoying wonderful photos posted each month. I was very timid to add my photo to the mix.
The hummingbird 'Coming In For A Landing' was a lucky moment. One of those moments that you hope 1 or 2 of the 100 shots may prove to be worthwhile. I was mesmerized by the color of the feathers shining in the afternoon sun.
I am very fortunate to have a photo partner for all our adventures past, present and future.
Many thanks to all who entered and voted.
Best to All, Leslie

So glad to have you aboard.
I was wrong when I told you that you can't start your own thread (like this one by Grumpy) until you have 10 posts. Since you have a star, you may start a thread any time you want! Sooner or later, whatever you want.
Welcome aboard!

Many thanks😊

(9,685 posts)Welcome to DU!!!
Between you and Ross we will all have to raise our game. And that is a good thing!
We don't just do pics though, there are some great groups out there! Much love to both of you.💖 Ross had some very kind words for me over DU mail that I appreciated so very much. You are both great additions to DU. Huzzah!!!!!
PS Ross, you rock, if not for anything but marrying Leslie

(14 posts)Hello Soph0571,
Thank you for your kind words.
I worked in my family's black and white photo processing lab for a decade and saw the richness in the art of B&W. My Mom was trained in Europe and could paint with her hands creating beautiful B&W work. (Same place Ross and I met.
Learning as we go and hope for that shot the inspires others.
Many travels a head for us all with cameras in hand.
Best to you,
Leslie
