This was much easier with the Olympus EE-1 red dot sight/viewfinder. Nikon also offers one, not sure about Canon but it makes no difference as this accessory doesn't electronically connect to the camera so any sight will work on any camera. DSLRs will also work with them it's just hard to compose without the real-time LCD panel. There are now also very inexpensive alternatives from the after market as low as $40.

(14,559 posts)The red-dot sight works like the gun equivalent. It clips into the hot shoe and puts a red dot on your subject/target. The advantage is that you can look past the sight and see the entire environment making it easier to find a moving subject and lock focus. With mirrorless cameras you can hold the camera away from you and actually see the image in the LCD display while keeping the red dot on the subject.

The birds had that whole action dialed in. Consequently, I got some cool pictures using an old EOS, it was over a decade ago, just when digital was getting serious.

Great tip on the Olympus EE-1 red dot sight/viewfinder. I thought anything with the word photography cost $250. $40 is a steal! Thats amazing.

(14,559 posts)The aftermarket stuff is hit and miss on quality and the manufacturers product folds flat when not in use. Plus, there's that blind brand loyalty

Its really great for long lens. Its above my self gifting birthday budget but on the official wish list.

(14,559 posts)You can have something now and upgrade if and when you can justify it! Always have extra batteries tho, the inexpensive stuff tends to not turn off when not in use and have no manual switch.
I made my first one before Oly introduced the EE1.
I run out of adjectives describing your photos. I keep thinking you must be tired of my always saying that they are "beautiful, awesome, amazing, stunning, gorgeous," etc. All I can tell you is how much I enjoy looking at them and how much they lift my spirits and bring enjoyment to my life. These photos are so clear and detailed!
I LOVE your photos so very much!
I want to thank you, again, for sharing your talent with us. Thank you!
