(156,619 posts)It was very good! I hope (unless you're vegan) that there will be prime rib in the near future for you!

(81,262 posts)I am having prime rib for Christmas Eve dinner.
Your roast looks wonderful.
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,619 posts)I hope your Prime Rib will be every bit as good as ours tonight!
The meat market where I bought this gave me a printed recipe that explains how long to cook it, and what temperature to use, and all that. I didn't have to do nearly any thinking!

(81,262 posts)Yours looked like a picture in a magazine.
Yes it is good to have a reliable recipe for Prime Rib.
It is so expensive, we want it to be perfect!
A family member is going to cook the prime rib for Christmas Eve, and it always comes out great! So it will be good!

(156,619 posts)That was it. Put in a baking potato too, and made some green veggies on the side.

(5,214 posts)At the grocery store meat counter.
It was like five or six inches thick. And I just sat and looked at it for a few minutes, before reaching past it for a pound of hamburger.
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,619 posts)You might try it sometime. It's basically a rib eye steak that has more than one rib.

(132,440 posts)horseradish?
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,619 posts)It was perfectly done! The recipe for roasting it had very clear instructions and I followed them closely.
No, no freshly grated horseradish. We tend to like our food more or less unadorned.

(22,583 posts)Like Irish_Dem, I like my beef a little more medium well than medium rare. But I know I'm probably in the minority there. Still
!
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,619 posts)I wanted it to be rare but not too much. This was perfect for me.
You should eat what you want. What other people want doesn't matter.

(6,913 posts)On days with holiday feasts, I treasure recipes that dont get cooked in the oven at the same time as everything else.
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,619 posts)I'm just the opposite! The more things I can get in the oven, the better!

I'm really an omnivore. There's very few things I won't eat.

CaliforniaPeggy
(156,619 posts)No question it was worth it. We'll get several dinners out of this.
It looked so photogenic, that I went upstairs to my study to get my iPhone! I am so glad I did.
Thanks for the compliment!

(34,195 posts)Would I be correct in guessing that the cooking time depends upon the weight?
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,619 posts)I think you're correct. The recipe showed different cooking times for different weights, and there was a progression of longer times to cook as the weight increased.

(132,440 posts)Now I wish I had gotten it.
Was checking the ads for my store and noticed that the prime rrib is on sale with loyalty card at an almost reasonable price. .hmmmmmm. decisions. Decisions.

(10,440 posts)My Urologist (calcium oxalate stones) told me the only safe animal protein is from any animal without eyes. I think he was being funny, but the result is cutting back, and I so miss the carnivore life.
I do still drink Carnivore wine, it would be sublime with that prime rib
