(14,889 posts)My photo was taken only 1.5 miles from my home. We had a cold snap a while back and I snapped this photo during one of our walks by the river.

It should come as no surprise that I'm entering my shot of the Yellowstone River. My second entry, if I get one, will be Hot Creek at Sunset.
I took this photo ten years ago just after I retired. We were in the middle of a 4,500 mile cross country trip with our new RV, travelling to Wisconsin for a wedding. I shot it with a Canon SX20HS, which is considered a "bridge" camera. It's basically a glorified, point n' shoot camera with a very tiny sensor and a humongous zoom lens. It didn't shoot raw, which is OK because I had never even heard of a raw picture file at the time.
I wasn't thinking of myself as a "photographer" in those days. Actually, I was more into fishing than photography. I was just another boomer on vacation with a camera, posting his pictures to Facebook. It was the favorable comments that I got from my Facebook friends that got me thinking more about getting back into my lifelong avocation.
Years later a friend turned me onto the Snapseed app. I went back and did some very simple edits on the file. I brought the exposure down on the water to bring out the details, and raised the exposure on the trees for the same reason.
I still have that camera. I leave it on my bicycle in case I see any ospreys or herons on my bike ride.
We already have some great entries. I predict this will be another tough contest
Good luck!

EDIT: NEVER MIND!
I went back and checked the semi-finals for the reflection contest. I only entered one photo that month. I had planned to enter a second time, but missed the opportunity. So, I'm good!
I was just reading through the contest rules again, and I saw that once a photo has been in one contest, it is ineligible for future contests. Does that still hold true? I was planning on entering "Hot Creek" for my second entry, but I think I may have entered that one in the "reflections" contest.
I have more if I can't enter that one, but it's my wife's favorite.
Thanks,
Grumpy

(11,791 posts)Mine is from just around the time we started hearing about COVID-19 (November 2019). I took a trip through the Scottish Highlands with a lifelong friend.
I miss traveling.
ETA: I spent a good chunk of 2020/21 in lockdown in the UK. I was there studying law, so I didn't have a ton of chances to get out and shoot.

(28,817 posts)The person who chose the theme said no Lakes.
3. thinking...........any season, moving water, no lakes.
At the time this was posted many questioned why not Lakes. But we were told no Lakes. So isnt Loche a lake?
Welcome back

(11,791 posts)It opens to the Firth of Lorn and then to the sea. Some lochs are lakes, but this one isnt.

(14,559 posts)I have some wading birds shot in local creeks but the water is (very) flat and indistinguishable from lakes as well as they're BIRDS in a creek as opposed to a CREEK with a bird.
Shot in IR and color added.
