Photography
Related: About this forumYou know who you are! If you entered a photograph that is too large.
This time I will not take the photos that are too large and make them smaller to fit the required
1024 pixels in its longest dimension and under 675K in file size
I'm not really good at it and in the last contest I led it took me many hours to do it.
I'll ask you to please do it yourself, and thank you in advance, you can fix it and as you know it's a matter of simply editing the entry and inserting the new link.
I was really pleased to scroll down in my last contest to see the photos in all the same size.
With your help we can make this happen again.

(1,407 posts)I always scale down my images prior to uploading them. I process the image as normal and export it at its normal size. Then I resize the exported image using Irfanview (with the jpeg quality set to 100%) and check the size. If it's over 675k, I lower the jpeg quality by a single percentage point and repeat until it's under the limit. (I can almost always export at 100% without hitting the limit.)
I upload the smaller image to the photo site and use that for posting to DU.
Caveat: I don't need to post full size photos, as DU is pretty much the only place I post my photos. As a result, I only upload the smaller images to Flickr. So, doing this is less of a hassle for me than for many others, who want/need to have full size images on their photo sharing site. Maintaining a separate photo album with the smaller images would be an option but would require more work and would also push you closer to any limits (like number of photos or total memory limits) so it's not a solution for everyone.

(149,771 posts)I checked the data on my photo and the size says 3941 x 2797. It does not say what measurement this is in.
HELP.
Thanks!

(22,380 posts)first let me say I regret making it, but now that we have the dilemma let me tell you what I have learned.
First, the old timers like myself know that I am a rank amateur in all of this, but I take some acceptable photos and can run a contest.
In the past I used photobucket. Don't remember how that worked, but they priced themselves out of most of our budgets.
Then I went to Imgur and my photos were always too large, I was embarrassed, often asked for help and got it, and then I found
POSTIMAGE.ORG
I put my photo on my desktop after cropping and or editing and then open Postimage. On the very first page asks me what size I want it, I click on the size and bingo it uploads it and gives me the link.
It works and comes out the correct size each time, no matter what size it is on my desktop.
Thanks for paying attention, try it, and you will probably like it as much as I do.
Other than that, I wish I had just let it go. Especially because I am not knowledgable enough to examine a photo's particulars to see the size. All I have is my eyes. And Peggy - your photo is the right size.
Live and learn.

(31,413 posts)and they are all ok.
Right click on a photo and it will bring up a menu. Click on Inspect (Q) and under Box Model on the far right it will give the pixel dimensions of the photo.
This is a different display than what it used to be when you could right click on a photo and it would give you options/info about it that included the file size. I can't figure out where the file size info is now located, or if it's even there. So, I wouldn't worry about file size. But you can check pixel dimensions.

(22,380 posts)should have asked you in the first place to help me instead of trusting my eyes. This is good to know and will help me in the future. I apologize for worrying everyone with concerns that were not justified. Onward and upward - we are more than 2/3 done with submissions already.

(9,955 posts)Click on an image file, and File Menu --> Get Info (or command-I)
That will give you the pixel counts and file size.
I have not yet used any "app" to downsize pictures that I care for: For example, a digital photo that's 6000x4000 and 13 megabytes.
So, I have been opening the photos in Preview and taking a screenshot.
The screenshot dimensions are typically 600x900 pixels, and 800K (oops, that's > 675K ... I will crop tighter)
Naturally, those 13 megabyte files are real nice, but I can't be filling up friends' and family's mailboxes. The small ones work OK.
Trying to keep things simple. I need to spend more time taking photos and less time sorting and cropping.
