News on the photo front: the CP+ show canceled and going virtual again.

The CP+ show in Japan has been canceled. It's the largest consumer electronics show and expo in Japan and where all the new photo stuff is usually announced. It was scheduled to open Feb 24 and run for four days.

The Feb 24 date is important in that the new OM Systems 'Wow' camera is to announced on that date. Panasonic has an announcement the day before on the 23rd so one must assume it would be a Web announcement. It's possible the OMS announcement was also to be virtual but the CP+ would have had more pizzazz.

Now there is a rumor that the new OMS camera will be announced on Feb 15. This comes from a website called 4/3 Rumors . . . well duh! The site has a reliability ranking of FT1 through FT5. FT1 being Nicki Minaj's Cousin's Friend's Balls and FT5 being Dr. Fauci's White House briefing. This rumor is rated FT3 and goes on to predict the new camera will carry the Olympus logo and be labeled the OM1. So midway between Nicki Minaj's Cousin's Friend's Balls and Fauci's briefing lies this rumor. (I wrote this whole piece just to say that!)

The FT4 & 5 rumors have been quite accurate (the FT5 is sourced to people inside the company and FT4 is 'un-named people in the know'). That leaves FT3 with some limited legitimacy. I personally cannot see the Olympus logo on the new camera after the big hoopla announcing the new OM Systems brand. The earlier date is a possibility now that the CP+ show has gone virtual taking some of the glitter off a live unveiling and stealing some of Panasonic's thunder. Still no rumors about actual specs.

Rumors are fun and some are stoked by the Manufacturers themselves be they real or just fantasy. We'll see in a week or two . . .

Supposedly they're announcing the R7, a new pro level crop sensor mirrorless. I want one.

43 Rumors because I obviously have a vested interest there and Camera World because it covers a wide range of photocentric topics. The news about Canon, Nikon and others I post comes from CW. There are rumor websites for both of those as well and perhaps I should monitor them as well.

I'll see what I can find on the R7.

I got another hit on the OMS 'wow' camera. It will be announced Feb15 and it will be labeled the OM 1. Ahhh, nostalgia . . .

I scoured the usual sources and only found a mention on Canonrumors.com with a possible announcement date in March. No specs, no pix or anything.

Google search on 'canon r7' only turned up the canonrumors reference. Is there more? Canon's been really busy with the R5 and R3 plus the new lenses.

... and a little bit on YouTube, but those are mostly people quoting CanonRumors.com. Prior to this the the aps-c mirrorless was rumored to be coming out later in 2022.

Incidentally, the apparently the owner of CanonRumors.com just sold the website due to harrassment he has been receiving from internet idiots.
