Quick question. Do you ask permission to photograph your subjects?

Some pictures posted from before 2010 were totally candid, and I seldom asked for permission. Some are work product, so permission was implicit. They knew they were going to be in a picture.

Present pictures, where people are recognizable, I generally ask either before or after. Only two examples in what has been posted so far where I have not asked either before or after.
It's a tough call, particularly as I'm in France, and people can get 'shirty' when having a picture taken. Though, since I don't make pictures for commercial use, I'm on slightly firmer ground.

5. Yes, it's always a bit iffy when doing street photography.
